MWOW!: Museums Without Walls provides curriculum driven virtual field trips for P-12 teachers and their students. In a time when fewer and fewer P-12 students get to visit local museums as part of their schooling, MWOW! helps museums and classroom teachers do the next best thing—bring the museum to the classroom. But, rather than just virtually “touring” the museums, MWOW! takes a museum object and its story and links it to existing lessons and activities that are state guidelines compliant.

MWOW! is a partnership between the Northern Kentucky University Public History program, the Grant County Middle School, Villa Madonna Academy and the museums and cultural heritage institutions of Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati Tri-state region.

The Way We Live: The Betts House and Ancient Rome

“The Way We Live” is a virtual field trip that links a story of daily life in Ancient Rome, Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 19th century, and Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky today. The museum object in this trip is the Betts House in Cincinnati, Ohio. Built in 1804, the Betts House is the oldest brick house in the state of Ohio. Because Roman apartment buildings were also built of brick, brick construction becomes the jumping off point for a student exploration of living conditions for people in three eras.
